{"id":11150,"date":"2019-05-26T08:35:13","date_gmt":"2019-05-26T12:35:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visitoakville.com\/?p=11150"},"modified":"2019-05-26T08:35:13","modified_gmt":"2019-05-26T12:35:13","slug":"tourism-week-signals-time-of-growth-for-visit-oakville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.zarrtech.net\/visitoakville\/2019\/05\/tourism-week-signals-time-of-growth-for-visit-oakville\/","title":{"rendered":"Tourism Week signals time of growth for Visit Oakville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As Tourism Week in Canada kicks off May 26, Visit Oakville will be celebrating a new era of growth and prosperity in Oakville\u2019s tourism industry.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/visitoakville.com\/oakville-tourism-partnership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visit Oakville<\/a> is an incorporated non-profit destination management organization (DMO) that is operated through a board of directors comprised of local tourism stakeholders like town councillors, B.I.A. directors and hoteliers.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2009, this small organization has been marketing Oakville as a tourist destination by promoting the many local businesses, events and attractions that make the town unique.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTourism is a rapidly growing industry in Canada and Oakville has a lot to offer visitors,\u201d said Visit Oakville Board of Directors Chair Philippa Durbin. \u201cWhether you\u2019re a history buff, foodie, photographer or naturalist, Oakville has something that can speak to everyone\u2019s passions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2018 was a record-breaking year for tourism in Canada with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.destinationcanada.com\/en\/news\/record-breaking-year-canadas-tourism-sector\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Destination Canada<\/a> calculating that 21.13 million visitors contributed an estimated $102.5 billion to the national economy.<\/p>\n<p>This trend persists at a provincial level, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tiaontario.ca\/articles\/unlocking-the-growth-potential-of-ontarios-powerful-tourism-industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tourism Industry Association of Ontario<\/a> predicting that 2019 will see the industry generate more than $31 billion in visitor spending.<\/p>\n<p>Visit Oakville\u2019s efforts will also expand in the coming years due to the Town of Oakville\u2019s recent implementation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakville.ca\/residents\/municipal-accommodation-tax.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Municipal Accommodations Tax<\/a> (MAT).<\/p>\n<p>The estimated half a million dollars the organization will receive through the MAT will allow Visit Oakville to further promote the town as a destination, develop product and partnerships and maximize the impact tourism has on the local economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are in a great position to generate more business, build tourism-related infrastructure and help support local initiatives,\u201d said Visit Oakville Board member and Ward 1 Town and Regional Councillor Sean O\u2019Meara. \u201cWe are excited to take on new projects that will increase our tourism profile while giving back to the Oakville community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This will include the implementation of a hosting grant within the next year to financially assist local organizations with the expansion and creation of new tournaments and events that draw an out-of-town crowd.<\/p>\n<p>As Tourism Week continues, Visit Oakville encourages community members to reach out and learn more about local tourism, welcome new visitors with open arms and explore all the amazing opportunities Oakville has to offer.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, see <a href=\"https:\/\/visitoakville.com\/about-tourism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visitoakville.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Tourism Week in Canada kicks off May 26, Visit Oakville will be celebrating a new era of growth and prosperity in Oakville\u2019s tourism industry.
