I am a huge advocate of farm to fork. I like things that are fresh, natural, organic and that give back to my community. It is especially important for me to shop local now, as many small and independently owned businesses are struggling with the loss of regular customers. When I was looking for local markets in Oakville to attend, I came across Dorval Crossing Civitan Farmers Market<\/a>. It\u2019s one of the most popular markets in town and claims to be the longest-running farmers market in support of community charities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You can visit this market from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until Nov. 25, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n

The organizers of the market have gone above and beyond to maintain safety for sellers and consumers. Customers must sanitize their hands when entering the market, there are also sanitizers at every vendor station, masks are required and everyone is asked to socially distance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What can you find at this market?<\/b><\/h3>\n

Ditch the chain grocery stores and invest in amazing local products from vendors around the GTA at this farmers market. Indulge in kettle corn, maple syrup, honey, corn, fruits, cheese, bread, meat, cookies and so much more. There are about 20 vendors at the market who come from different locations such as Dundas and Etobicoke.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each stall at the market has a story to tell and has something unique to offer to the customers. We absolutely loved the soup collection by Allin Mikuna<\/a>, who specializes in ready-to-make soups that are delicious. They also have several vegan options!<\/span><\/p>\n

Natural body care products<\/b><\/h3>\n

For some natural body care products, you should head to Captain Jamie\u2019s<\/a> little kiosk. She has some aromatic and organic body bars, tooth powder, lip balms, body cream and hair colourings. We also absolutely loved the products displayed by Refillery Market<\/a>. We’re talking eco-friendly, package-free, Canada-sourced soaps, detergents and personal care products. You also have the option of filling your own container with their products. How cool!<\/span><\/p>\n

You HAVE to visit the C Book Woodwork store before you leave. As the name suggests, the items here are all things made from wood. From simple bowls, plates and spatulas to a raw wooden block centre table, this vendor has a lot to offer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fruits and veggies<\/b><\/h3>\n

Sourced from local Ontario farms, the fresh plums, apples and grapes will most certainly find a place in your shopping cart. We were most excited about the fresh basket of strawberries that were $5. You could also satisfy your sweet craving with a bottle of rich organic honey. Walk to the kiosk by Dundas Farms and get yourself a basket of fresh grapes. Even the bees couldn\u2019t resist this one. This family-owned business has been producing grapes for the past 90+ years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you are a chai lover, you shouldn\u2019t miss the kiosk by Oplinic<\/a>. They carry an interesting line of products, including Sri Lankan tea and spices. We picked up some fresh peppers and cardamom, and we are in love with the fresh smell.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Food and snacks<\/b><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

For all your deli needs, head to Smokesville<\/a>. This kiosk offers everything from hot or mid cacciatore, different kinds of salami (camping salami, venison salami, Hungarian peppercorn salami), organic Mennonite summer sausages, bacon chips, Csabai sausages and more. That is just about 1\/4 of what you get at this kiosk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You will also not want to miss Quality Bakery, where you can find fresh coconut tarts, butter tarts, cookies, bread, buns and other goodies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Giving back to the community<\/b><\/h3>\n

The best part about the Dorval Farmers Market is that funds collected from each vendor are donated towards the local communities, and the vendors get to sell their products to a larger customer base. From what we saw, they were mostly sold out by the end of the day. Shopping through local farmers markets like this means that you are helping small scale local farmers and creators, as well as the community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
