I know most of us are going to be landlocked this holiday season, so I wanted to learn more about ways to enjoy this time of year with my household in our own town. I wanted to explore Oakville\u2019s outdoors and make a list of places that are perfect to spend quality time with my family, engage in some activities and take loads of pictures. Here\u2019s my list of things to do even when Oakville turns into winter wonderland.<\/p>\n

1. Bronte Creek Provincial Park<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

One of the top spots to explore this winter season is Bronte Creek Provincial Park. This park is full of opportunity, providing space for a five-kilometer cross-country ski trail and some great tobogganing hills. If you just want to spend time with nature, go for snow walks with the kids for something safer and kid-friendly.<\/p>\n

2. Head to the Waterfront<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We love the harbour and the lake during the summer, but have you explored the waterfront during the winters? The frozen water and the cold breeze can be an unmatched experience. Take a stroll at the Bronte Outer Marina<\/a> or you can head to the Lakeside Park<\/a> for some views and chills.<\/p>\n

3. Explore the parks and trails<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

With over 1,400 hectares of parkland, Oakville is well known as a garden town. Though you won\u2019t find any blooms, Oakville parks and trails are equally gorgeous come winter. Bundle up and explore the snow-capped serenity of local trails<\/a> like Bronte Heritage Park, Edgemere Promenade, Arkendo park, Coronation Park, Erchless Estate, Gairloch Gardens, Shell Park, Lion’s Valley Park and Weswood Park.<\/p>\n

4. Outdoor skating<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Outdoor ice skating is a quintessential Canadian winter activity, and we hope it is still possible this year. Should Oakville\u2019s 11 outdoor rinks<\/a> open this winter, an afternoon skate is a brilliant way to spend some quality time with your household and explore new areas of Oakville.<\/p>\n

5. Take in all the holiday decor<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

While this year\u2019s tree lighting ceremonies might look different, you can still find your fill of holiday d\u00e9cor in our three BIAs- Downtown Oakville<\/a>, Kerr Village<\/a> and Bronte Village<\/a>. Walk through streets lined with lights, holly, ribbon and more and get a little holiday shopping<\/a> done at local retailers.<\/p>\n

6. Drive through history<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ever wonder what Oakville looked like back in the day? Jump in the car and take a little trip back in time as you drive through Downtown Oakville<\/a>\u2019s streets to see some of the best-preserved historic homes<\/a>. You might even be able to see a few houses decked out in Christmas lights.
