With the warmer weather fast approaching, the Town of Oakville is encouraging residents to \u201cspring into action\u201d this season. While COVID-19 continues to challenge us, Ready, Set, Spring! will offer unique opportunities to not only give back to the community, but to focus on personal wellness through recreation and culture activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven in adversity, Oakville residents continue to show their amazing community spirit,\u201d said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton. \u201cOur town\u2019s community engagement is unparalleled and this initiative provides residents with ways to support local, donate to those in need and maintain physical fitness and mental well-being, all while following COVID-19 protocols.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To officially launch Ready, Set, Spring!, residents are invited to give back to the community at two drive-thru donation events on Saturday, April 10 at Coronation Park from 9 a.m. to noon, and Sixteen Mile Sports Complex from 2 to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While in the safety and comfort of your vehicle, wave hello to Sparky the Fire Dog and the Oakville Fire department, plus enjoy spring give-aways including Take and Make crafts and seed planting kits (available while supplies last).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents are invited to drive through their preferred location to drop off new or unused items. In consultation with local agencies, the following items are required:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022    Non-perishable food items
\u2022    Recreation and arts equipment (used bikes will be accepted)
\u2022    Baby supplies (diapers, wipes, formula, etc.)
\u2022    Personal care products (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.)
\u2022    Menstrual products (sanitary napkins, tampons, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols, we will not be accepting used items, clothing or household items. Pedestrian access is not permitted at the donation event sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special thanks to our partners at United Way of Halton and Hamilton, Food for Life Canada, Kerr Street Mission, and Front Line Outreach for their help distributing these items into the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022    Spring Scavenger Hunt and family fitness challenges.
\u2022    Self-guided StoryWalks on select trails with Oakville Public Library (OPL).
\u2022    No Dragons for Tea virtual storytimes with OPL and Oakville Fire.
\u2022    Sports Equipment Lending Program offered through OPL.
\u2022    Virtual programs for all ages and abilities (free and fee-based).
\u2022    Community events (BIAs, Visit Oakville, Oakville Galleries).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those looking for safe and physically-distanced in-person activities, the town continues to offer limited pre-registered programming, fitness and culture memberships, recreational swimming and skating, drop-in sport training, and more. Registration for spring programs opens Wednesday, March 24 at 7 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
