It\u2019s Women\u2019s History Month and we\u2019re celebrating by highlighting some of Oakville\u2019s incredible women-owned businesses! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, we\u2019re taking a look at Community<\/a>, an upscale casual vegan restaurant in Kerr Village that is owned by two women of colour, Alka Dhir and Vanusa Moore. Alka is a certified holistic nutritionist who has been in the food service industry since she was 21 and Vanusa is a foodie at heart who has spent the last 15 years of her career working with local and international non-profit organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together, they created a space where delicious food and responsible consumption go hand-in-hand. Not only do they deliver incredible meals at affordable prices, they stand behind their name and help bolster the community by giving back to local businesses and charities. They are also committed to hiring a diverse and local workforce. They\u2019ve been nominated for many local tourism awards, consistently attracting new business and interest from those outside of Oakville. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Why did you start your business?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: We wanted to bring people together with great food, and we believed that a full-service vegan resto serving amazing food was necessary in Oakville. We put a lot of care into our food, with about 96% of our menu being made right in our kitchen. We also make all of our dessert in-house from scratch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What is your most popular dish?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: Our crab cakes, for sure. This flavourful dish is made with hearts of palm, chickpeas, nori, tartar sauce, organic arugula, and is both gluten and soy-free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What is a dish that people might sleep on but need to try?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: Our Dosa (lentil crepe)! Between the roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, mango chutney, toasted walnuts, garlic confit, cashew crema and fresh herbs, there are so many layers of flavour. This dish is gluten-free, soy-free and also comes in a keto option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What is your favourite drink on the menu?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: The Mango Dream. I love the mix of mango puree, coconut milk and maple syrup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What is your favourite dessert on the menu?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: The Rolo Cake, no question. It\u2019s a gluten-free dense triple-layered chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream, chocolate ganache, caramel drip and a housemade rolo on each piece. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Why is your restaurant a can\u2019t-miss destination for people visiting Oakville?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: We serve amazing food, we have a Vegan Red Seal Chef at the helm and we put so much time and effort into our food. New faces and dedicated favourites are also in store for a really fun and artistic environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: What makes Oakville such a great destination for foodies?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: Oakville has beautiful, unique spaces that serve yummy food staffed by some incredible chefs\/cooks and front of house staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Where do you recommend people go after they\u2019ve indulged at Community?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: I always recommend taking a nice stroll in the neighbourhood. What’s so lovely about Kerr Village is that it brings all kinds of people together. There are so many different demographics, cultures, ages, sexes, all kinds of people in our community. Taking a stroll along Kerr is how you can really begin to appreciate it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Q: Why should people visit Oakville?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A: People should visit Oakville because it has culture, art, restos, and is very inclusive. Just like Community Resto \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n
