Visit Oakville to receive federal funding to support Canada 150 initiatives<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oakville, ON, May 29, 2017 \u2013 <\/strong>Visit Oakville has announced that it will be receiving federal funding from the Canada Summer Jobs program to help promote the town\u2019s Canada 150 activities.<\/p>\n

The $50,000 funding will allow for extended visitor services through Visit Oakville\u2019s Ambassador program during the town\u2019s peak visitor season. Services will be offered across the Oakville Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) of Downtown Oakville, Kerr Village and Bronte, as well as at many of the events occurring all over town in the coming months.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so grateful to receive this support from [Oakville MP] John Oliver and the federal government,\u201d says Golf Canada Curator and Visit Oakville Chair, Meggan Gardner. \u201cWith this funding, we will be able to promote events within our community more effectively and better engage those coming to visit our beautiful town.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students employed as Ambassadors will engage with members of the community, inform visitors of local attractions, attend exciting Oakville events and participate in the promotion of Canada 150 activities throughout town, including the TD Songs of Summer Festival<\/a>, the RBC Canadian Open<\/a> and Canada Day at Bronte<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis funding allows us to provide employment opportunities for local students enrolled in high school or post-secondary institutions while aiding in promoting their own town,\u201d says Gardner.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cThis is a unique job, and one that will see students not only giving back to their community but learning more about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Canada Summer Jobs<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Canada Summer Jobs program is a federal government initiative that supports not-for-profit, public sector and small business organizations with 50 or fewer employees. Through the issuing of federal funds, the program creates summer job opportunities for full-time Canadian students aged 15 to 30. Its overall goal is to support both students and their local communities.<\/p>\n

Visit Oakville<\/strong><\/p>\n

The organization is currently working on an Oakville-focused Canada 150 campaign, and is looking forward to working with local students for the upcoming summer season. More information can be found on their website at www.visitoakville.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n
